At the gambling house, seeing Dong Soo below, Dae Ju thinks, it would be an interesting match. Yeo Un is worried that Dae Ju might be up to something.
Jin Ju manages to take her opponent down, only that the judge says, “Hitting the groin gets the losing penalty.” Jin Ju is pissed, they should have told her before. But the judge insists that anywhere else on the body is fine, but not the groin, it’s the penalty loss. The judge announces her opponent as the winner.
The next fight is announced, the match is between Baek Ho and Jang Tae San. Jin Ju tells Dong Soo to surely win the fight, Dong Soo steps onto the ring.
Dae Ju comments that the fighter is Sword Saint’s disciple. Yeo Un tells him the other guy is too weak, it won’t be an interesting match. Dae Ju asks if Yeo Un wants to go down and fight, but Kenzo says he will do it.
Kenzo comes facing Dong Soo and greets him. Dae Ju asks Yeo Un which one he will bet his money on. Yeo Un smiles and says he can’t act like he doesn’t know the good friend, “I’m betting on Baek Dong Soo.”
Dae Ju says, “For me, I….” , he whispers into the manager’s ear. And the fight begins.
Then there’s a time break using a sand clock as a timing device. Upstairs, Dae Ju says it’s indeed a well-matched match. Jin Ju helps wiping Dong Soo’s sweats, she wonders how that man can be so strong.
Dong Soo tells her that the man is the person who wreaked the havoc in the palace from before, he’s also the part of the plot to kill the Prince. Jin Ju looks at Kenzo, she’s a little worried. She gives Dong Soo water, he takes a zip and stops, he catches some strange smell in the water, but when Jin Ju asks, he brushes it off. And they resume the fight.
On the stage, while fighting, Dong Soo staggers a bit feeling dizzy, he falls down to the floor. Kenzo notices his unwell condition. Seeing Dong Soo like that, Dae Ju smirks. Jin Ju can guess right away that it must be something in the water.
Sa Mo and Jin Gi try to get inside but the tickets are sold out, when they are about to go back, a man thrusts two tickets to their faces, saying it’s for them to get inside. The man hides his face and quickly walks away. Sa Mo thinks that man may be In – the weird guy. They go inside anyway.
With his condition, Dong Soo is stabbed on his chest by Kenzo. Dae Ju wonders aloud why Dong Soo’s like that, Yeo Un couldn’t sit still seeing Dong Soo got stabbed, he says Dong Soo must have been drugged.
Dong Soo uses all his strength to push at Kenzo and breaks free from his sword. Dae Ju hints that he knows about this place’s trick that these people must be at it again.
Yeo Un glares at him and angrily asks , in a duel where they bet their lives, if those people would cheat. Dae Ju tells him to look around, this is a gambling house strewn with fresh and blood, one can make a lot of money, one can lose everything in a flash, “Don’t you think it’s a mistake to look for a fair fight?” Yeo Un couldn’t answer to that. Dae Ju zips his drink and says, “We should just enjoy the fight, that’s all.” Yeo Un keeps his anger to himself.
Dae Ju asks if Yeo Un still has some sympathy left for that Baek Dong Soo. Yeo Un says it’s not sympathy, if it’s not a fair fight, it isn’t something to get excited about. Dae Ju chuckles, he tell Yeo Un to wait and see, when Dong Soo is at the door to his afterlife, it would be a lot of fun. Yeo Un gulps, he peeks at the sand clock.
Seeing Dong Soo’s weak condition, Kenzo says Dong Soo does not fit for the fight. But Dong Soo gets up and tells him to start from now. They resume the fight, only for Dong Soo to get kicked down to the floor again.
Sa Mo is worried looking at Dong Soo, he thinks about Dong Soo in the past,
“Dong Soo, do you know what kind of a man you are? After enduring hardships and obstacles, you’ve come this far, right? Whether it’s the powerful army or the lord of hell, Dong Soo, nobody could block your path. Get up, you are (Baek) Sa Geong’s child, Sword Saint’s disciple, aren’t you Baek Dong Soo?”
Dong Soo slowly gets up again.
Jin Ju looks at him and thinks about the past, “Dong Soo, aren’t you the one who doesn’t know how to give up? Aren’t you’re not afraid of anything in this world? You can do it. Aren’t you Baek Dong Soo? Aren’t you Joseon’s best swordsman, Beak Dong Soo?”
Dong Soo stands up and is ready to fight.
They resume the fight again. Just when they are going to charge into each other, Yeo Un secretly takes out a coin and flies it to the sand clock, it breaks.
So the time is out for the fight. Dong Soo and Kenzo have their swords at each other’s throat, they stops and break away, and Dong Soo collapses to the floor.
Jin Ju, Sa Mo and Jin Gi rush to help carry Dong Soo out. Dae Ju looks at Dong Soo and asks Yeo Un, if it’s his doing. Yeo Un just asks back, what he’s talking about. Dae Ju says Dong Soo sure has a long life, he glares at Yeo Un and leaves.
Dong Soo looks upwards to Yeo Un, they look at each other. Dong Soo passes out, Yeo Un leaves.
Kenzo asks if Dae Ju drugged Dong Soo, it’s like he couldn’t trust him, Dae Ju laughs and says, “Don’t they say to prepare for everything?” Kenzo says it’s men putting their lives on the line, please don’t do it in the future. Dae Ju laughs but he nods his understanding, though he wonders why the Sky Lord didn’t come.
OST – Kim Tae Woo (acoustic)
They brings Dong Soo back, Ji Seon takes care of him. Jin Ju asks Jin Gi if Dong Soo is all right. He tells her Dong Soo is sleeping, he must be really tired from earlier.
Yeo Un quietly walks into the place thinking if Dong Soo will be all right. He turns to leave, Jin Ju comes to him and asks if he’s afraid that Dong Soo is still alive, “If he’s alive, Un, you want to kill him with your hands?” Jin Ju says she lost her mother and father, she doesn’t want to lose Dong Soo too. She warns him not to mess with Dong Soo.
Yeo Un says, “You and I are exactly the same. Dong Soo…. has always been my friend.” He leaves.
Jin Ju goes into the room to check on Dong Soo, she stops at the door looking inside, it’s Ji Seon taking care of Dong Soo. She thinks about Yeo Un’s words that they are the same, Jin Ju decides to let them be alone.
At the palace, the doctor examines the King’s and couldn’t dare say the result. The King smiles, he knows that his strength is declining, one cannot fight against time. The Prince says it’s because he hasn’t done good enough taking care of the King.
The King smiles and says how it can be the Prince’s fault. The Queen listens to them and is jealous, when walks out with the Prince, she praises the Prince’s devotion to the King. The Prince asks back that, is it not the way it should be. He bows and leaves. The Queen tells her dad that things cannot be delayed anymore.
Dae Ju’s lackeys carry on with the plan, they deliver the message to the key officials.
Dong Soo wakes up and walks outside, he says sorry to make them worry. He sits down and joins the meeting. Yu Dae is saying that people who won three rounds (at the gambling house) have all disappeared. Dong Soo yes.
Flashback, the manager guy tells Dong Soo that, at first this place wasn’t this big, then the government nobleman laid his hand on it, it’s become bigger, the fighters who become famous were given money and taken away, so the place is like the fighter market.
Present, Dong Soo says the fighters who disappeared were all bought by Dae Ju. Cho Rip says Dae Ju is picking up fighters who can die with no one care. Yu Dae thinks Dae Ju is building his private army, they need more evidence for this, he asks if there’s a way to get it. Cho Rip suggests they should follow Dae Ju’s moves.
At Heuksa Chorong, Gu Hyang receives a message. Tae San tells Yeo Un that, recently Dae Ju’s group has bought a lot of steel, it is sold out in the market, it’s clearly is for making weapons, but he cannot track down the location. Yeo Un says once a person wins three rounds, they will send him there so there’s no need to worry.
Gu Hyang reports the message from the shadowless world that tonight, there will a meeting of the Norons at the giseang house, the queen will also be there. The news calls for Yeo Un’s attention. The military power in the palace is in Dae Ju’s control, and the control of the Norons’ power is in the Queen’s hands.
Yeo Un, “Taking this opportunity to show my face there, would not be a bad idea.” He smiles.
The Norons and the Queen arrive at the meeting. Dong Soo peeks at the place. Gu Hyang feels some movement, she calls out, who it is. Dong Soo steps back into the shadow. Dae Ju’s son takes some soldiers to check on it.
The soldiers run pass Dong Soo, he gets up. Yeo Un calls out, and tells him to leave, this isn’t the matter for him to get into. Dong Soo refuses and says, it’s Yeo Un who should leave. Yeo Un asks if he thinks his martial arts will be able to withstand these powerful people.
Yeo Un begs him to leave, nothing can be changed even he’s out here. Dong Soo counters, then what there’s for Un to do.
Dong Soo, “But then, with your sword that stained so much blood, you must be getting all you wished for.”
Yeo Un shouts, “Baek Dong Soo! And what that saint-like sword of yours do? In the end, it couldn’t save anyone. To those dead, should I justify your helplessness?” Dong Soo tells him to shut up.
Yeo Un, “So many people got hurt trusting your lies that you would protect them. So please put your promises away.”
Dong Soo grabs his collar that he should have shut up. Yeo Un intentionally hits Dong Soo’s wound that he got from the duel with Kenzo. Dong Soo is angry, he approaches Yeo Un.
They fight in the dark. Both take turn to gain the upper hand, until Dae Ju’s son shouts at them asking who they are. Yeo Un and Dong Soo stops the fight, they recognize the voice, so they sneak away.
In the meeting, Dae Ju shows all the Norons the blood contract, except for Yu Dae, this is a contract of all the generals. One man is surprised to see the contract from the military forces, he asks if Dae Ju wants a military coup.
Dae Ju says it’s the bait for the big catch. He takes out a blank scroll and says, he thinks that they all know what the Queen wants, “If we die, we’ll die together. If we live, we’ll live together. isn’t it so?” He takes out a knife.
Each Noron takes turn to cut his finger and uses the blood to sign his name on the scroll. The Queen admires the blood contact, she ‘s satisfied. She asks Dae Ju who is that new person. It’s Kenzo. Dae Ju tells her, he is the warrior that will stand the front line of the uprising. Kenzo bows to her.
The Queen tells Dae Ju to say what preparations he’s done.
The fund is ready. The fighters signed up are the ones who can die without anyone care to find out, they are perfect for the uprising. Forging weapons, spears and swords, for 200 each, and 20 volleys.
Dae Ju says, that day, in the evening, another meteor will be falling, they will spread a rumor in the market that the Prince wants to kill the King.
The Queen says the lives that hung on the line is not the King or the Prince, but the lives them all. She stresses that, they all should take that to heart. Dae Ju tells her to leave that to them, they all bow to her.
Dong Soo and Yeo Un storm into the meeting, taking all the guards down together. All the Norons are surprised. Dae Ju yells at them asking if they know where they are to dare causing trouble. The Queen calmly gives the order to send them off quietly. So Dae Ju’s son kneels down and lets Dong Soo leave.
Yeo Un stands still. Dae Ju asks what’s going on, he didn’t remember inviting him. Yeo Un smiles, “A secret assembly here at night.” He says if only the King is here, it would be just like the Royal court. Han Gu yells at him, how dare he speaks nonsense. Yeo Un says, that’s right, a lowly peasant like him cannot join this occasion. He stares at the Queen who is also staring at him from behind a curtain. Yeo Un leaves.
Dae Ju bows to the Queen, she says the uprising is to happen soon, not to forget that.
Outside, Dong Soo asks what’s going on in there. Yeo Un asks why Dong Soo makes trouble where ever he goes. Dong Soo asks back, then he should turn a blind eye on their evil doings? Yeo Un begs him, that his showing up now, will not threaten them even one bit, and he has no evidence to convict them either. Yeo Un urges him to go, Dong Soo looks at him then he turns and leaves.
Yeo Un comes to see Dae Ju who is really angry about what happened at the meeting. Yeo Un explains to Dae Ju that he was just fooling around with his friend he didn’t see for a long time, he asks what the problem could that be. Dae Ju couldn’t believe that he’s fooling around with such important meeting. Yeo Un throws Dae Ju’s words back at him, he says, did he not say that , the gambling house strewn with flesh and blood, they just need to have fun.
Yeo Un says, our lives are a battleground strewn with flesh and blood, he’s just having fun. Dae Ju concedes, he asks how he knew about the meeting. Yeo Un smiles that if it’s the matter inside, he wouldn’t know. But for the matter outside, he asks if Dae Ju thinks he wouldn’t know. Dae Ju again concedes that fact, he asks what happened with Baek Dong Soo. Yeo Un doesn’t answer him so Dae Ju asks again louder.
Yeo Un, “About him…why would you ask me? Could it be that you are starting to have some sympathy for him?” Dae Ju shouts at his disrespectful answer. Yeo Un says he will take his leave then. But Dae Ju stops him and asks if he knows why he endured his provocation, it’s because he needs his help.
Dae Ju gives him a message, for him to send to the Qing’s Emperor. The message is written by the Queen herself. The matter that the Prince is doing the substitute-governing, an opposing imperial order from the Emperor is needed. Yeo Un is surprised to hear that. Dae Ju orders him to send the message to the Emperor, and the imperial edict has to reach his hands within half a month.
Yeo Un glares at him, he grabs the message and leaves. Kenzo asks Dae Ju what will happen if Yeo Un doesn’t deliver the message, Dae Ju tells him that it’s not something for him to worry about. Dae Ju asks his son about one of his lackey, he answers the guy should be at Bugak mountain. Dae Ju takes a deep breath, obviously trying to control his temper regarding Yeo Un’s disrespectful behavior.
Outside, Gu Hyang asks Yeo Un why he did that (at the meeting), it’s not in his nature. He asks her, the so-called ‘his nature’, what it is. She says, “Unmovable like Tae San mountain, and calm like the sea, isn’t it?”
He says, even Tae San mountain or the sea can crumble or upsurge at times, moreover, one can get caught in the swirls of the world, he is someone like that. Yeo Un walks on, she looks at him with worry in her eyes.
Bugak mountain, Dae Ju’s lackeys are flying the kites, one guy orders the strings to be cut by a torch. As the kites surge into the night sky, they are caught on fire and burned. The flames lit the sky with each kite starts tearing into tiny pieces, blowing further away by the wind.
Yeo Un quietly enters Sa Mo’s place, he hears the voice so he retreats back into the shadow listening to the conversation. Jin Ju is asking Dong Soo if he really met with Yeo Un, if something happened to him. Ji Seon interestingly listens to them. He says no. Jin Ju thinks about what Yeo Un told her that they were the same, and Dong Soo had always been his friend.
Jang Mi’s daughter sits next to Cho Rip, she says the night breeze is chilly. Cho Rip asks if she wants to jog a bit, causing her to look at him exasperated for his unromantic suggestion. Then she sees a meteor appears in the sky, it perks Dong Soo’s attention.
He can locate that it’s coming from Bugak mountain. He looks at Jin Ju to let’s go see the place, he runs out. Everybody follows except Ji Seon.
Yeo Un steps out looking at her. He thinks to himself as if talking to her, “If I throw away my assassin fate, can I see you? Can my blood-stained hands receive heartfelt forgiveness from you?”
The group go up the mountain. Jin Ju can smell the oil somewhere near. Dae Ju’s lackeys see them ,they sneak away. The group look around and find the leftover gunpowder-like grains. Dong Soo says he understands now, that every time a meteor fell, there always was the northeast wind blowing to Hanseong (the capital area). Why? Because only with the northeast wind, the meteor could fall.
Dong Soo says, it’s all been a set up, he pictures the whole process of making the fake meteor in his mind.
Flyers are circulated in the market creating rumors, it reads, “The Prince wants to take revenge for his falsely convicted father by becoming a king, it’s the heaven’s command.” Hong Do overhears people talking about it.
Han Gu presents the flyer to the Prince, and the King reads the message, his hands start shaking, he clutches the paper and throws it away. When back in his private quarter, the Prince is angry that how such thing is allowed to happen. Yu Dae warns him to calm down, it’s time to stay composed and see through their plot.
The Prince counters, stay calm and composed? He can already feel their swords aiming for his neck, “Their laughter that I hear day and night, won’t leave my ears, I’m telling you. Thus, I cannot sit and await death. Those who brought danger to me and shamed my father’s name will certainly get the punishment with my own hands. “
Hong Do shows Dong Soo and the rest the flyer circulated in the market. They think it’s Dae Ju’s doing, but Jin Gi says they cannot make a rash move. Dong Soo tells them that last night he found the truth behind the meteors, that they just picked the day, that the northeast wind was blowing, to fly the kites with gunpowder, from the top of Bugak mountain, then burned them up. And people from Dae Ju’s home while getting things earlier, also buying massive amount of saltpeter used to make gunpowder.
In the market, Ji Seon and Jang Mi’s daughter see Dae Ju’s men taking a box of saltpeter from a merchant. They approach the same merchant wanting to buy the saltpeter, the merchant tells them that it’s out of stock. So Jang Mi’s daughter asks him for a little amount to make firecrackers, he has that little mount to give them.
Jin Gi asks Dong Soo if Jin Ju is not with him. Dong Soo tells him she must have gone to the gambling house, and tells him not to worry.
Jin Ju is on the fighting stage again. [Dong Soo’s voice-over] “If Jang Tae San wins another round, he will be a 3-time winner. Someone will surely approach him, you follow him.” She says she too, if wins one more round, will be a 3-time winner.
The fight begins, Jin Ju kicks the guy and knocks him down the floor unconscious. She ‘s declared the winner.
Jin Ju enjoys her victory only to realize that she’s made a mistake, now she has become a 3-time winner. The manager guy tells her to follow him, Jin Ju decides to go along. Dae Ju’s lackey orders her to follow him.
At the market, Ji Seon and Jang Mi’s daughter follow the merchant to his storage. In follows them so he knows where the storage is.
Ji Seon gives the saltpeter from the market to Sa Mo, she tells them that this is the unprocessed saltpeter. To make gunpowder, they need saltpeter, sulfur and charcoal. Among them, what used most and most difficult to get, is this saltpeter.
Sa Mo says they plan to use firearms in their rebel coup. Jin Gi is worried why Jin Ju hasn’t come back yet. Dong Soo will go check on her, he leaves with Hong Do who will be going back to the palace. In looks at them from afar.
In gives the guy, who agreed to go after Dong Soo and claim his reward, a poison taken from viper’s fangs. He tells them to let’s make sure with this.
The Queen thinks about Yeo Un, she tells her father to secretly call him over. She says the uprising is imminent, should they not make a back up plan. Her father says making contact with Heuksa Chorong was done solely by Dae Ju.
Han Gu comes to meet Dae Ju, who is surprised to hear that the Queen wants to meet the Sky Lord. Han Gu tells him that the Queen is very displeased and wants to interrogate him herself. Dae Ju agrees to contact the Sky Lord.
After Han Gu left, Dae Ju is still figuring what’s going on with the Queen.
Dae Ju is talking to his son that they need more fighters. The lackey shows him new fighters, it’s Jin Ju and Tae San. The lackey says both fighters have already pleaded allegiance that they will lose their lives for him. Dae Ju tells the two fighters to let him see their martial arts. So Jin Ju duels with Tae San until Dae Ju calls for a stop, feeling satisfied.
But Dae Ju’s son recognizes Jin Ju from the day they killed Cheon. He approaches Jin Ju and tells his father that this fellow is not a man but a girl. He takes out Jin Ju’s face cover, that she ‘s the previous Sky Lord’s daughter. Everybody looks at her, the son calls the soldiers to take her down. Jin Ju fights with them and escapes outside.
Yeo Un reads the letter of the Queen to the Qing Emperor, [Dae Ju’s voice-over], “I need the imperial command that disapproves the Prince substitute-governing.”
Gu Hyang tells him that there’s a message from the palace, it’s from the Queen. Yeo Un says it comes sooner than he thought. She asks what he’s going to do. He says it’s the bait he threw out, so he has to meet her.
Dong Soo learns from the gambling house guy that Jin Ju had won three rounds of the fights, but the guy doesn’t tell her whereabouts. Dong Soo is a little worried where Jin Ju might be.
Jin Ju runs as fast to get away from Dae Ju’s men, she runs into Jin Gi and Sa Mo in the market. They help her beat the men chasing her. Seeing their disadvantage, the men and Dae Ju’s son retreat. Jin Gi pinches Jin Ju’s ear that once again she looked for trouble, he drags her away.
Dae Ju’s fighters that In hired, circle around Dong Soo and attack him. Dong Soo fights with them, he casually praises them that they do have some skill, the man swears to kill him. Dong Soo runs the other way expecting them to follow him.
Dae Ju says every step of the way, he keeps blocking his path, he thinks they must first go after that Baek Dong Soo. Kenzo tells him that even if it’s not about the uprising, he and Dong Soo will eventually have an encounter, but he’s not sure when will that be. Dae Ju’s son reports to his father of his failure to catch Jin Ju.
Dong Soo leads the men to a narrow alley. He puts away his sword and takes time to stretch his leg. He smiles and motions them to come forward. The men charge him, as they fight, their long poles get stuck on the wall because of the narrowness giving Dong Soo the upper hand, he kicks and punches all of them down, except the leader guy remains.
Yeo Un walks to the meeting place, the Queen and her father look at him from above. Suddenly the soldiers guarding the place attack him. Yeo Un is quick enough to counter their sudden moves. He pauses to shield his sword and adjust his shoulder’s strap, causally prepares to exercise his muscles.
He uses his acupuncture knowledge to fight with his bare hands and fists until all the guards stand still by his skills. The Queen voices out to him that his moves were impressive, she smiles. Yeo Un looks up and knows that it’s all a set up to test his martial arts.
Yeo Un asks her why she would look for someone like him. She says she will be straight, ,”How about becoming one of my people?” Yeo Un asks her if she means for him to betray Dae Ju. Han Gu laughs, why Yeo Un would put it that way, if an exceptional one like him would serve the Queen, it would be more powerful than keeping a big army. Yeo Un retorts if he do that, what will he gain?
The Queen smiles and says, “Whatever you want, I will give it all; wealth, power, fame. Whatever it is, go ahead and tell me.” Yeo Un tells her that he will have to think about it.
The Queen says she’s not a person with infinite patience. He says he’s not that shallow either. She tells him to show her the things he has first. Yeo Un says he’s an assassin, what an assassin would have to show?
The Queen, “No matter whose head it is, can you bring it to my front immediately now?”
Yeo Un, “Whose head do you want?”
The Queen, “What if it’s His Majesty’s head?”
Yeo Un is exasperated. He says that her joke is a bit too much. She laughs and says, “Then…..
Dong Soo is still fighting. The leader guy is charging him swinging his sword high, unfortunately his sword gets stuck in the hay roof. Dong Soo grins, he punches the guy and kicks him hard. The guy ends up lying on top of his lackeys. Dong Soo lets out another grin.
The Queen continues, “…bring me the head of Sword Saint’s disciple, Baek Dong Soo.”
Yeo Un acts indifferent to her request. He sighs and turns to look at her.
